| DJ’s
roots began in 1995 when Jeffery Fifi started servicing compressors
at his house. Soon enough Desmond Cozier & Lenny Reverend
also joined Jeffery. The next year the three of them incorporated
the company. That same year DJ Compressor acquired the Champion
compressor franchise. Also acquired was Independent Components.
Eventually they opened the businesses in its first location, a
former pub on Church St. in St. James.
It
was there that Desmond handled the Accounting, Lenny controlled
the Spare Parts and Jeffery worked the Service and Sales. Those
were lean times, so much so that they didn’t have a pick
up truck. So, Jeffery removed the back seat from his Nissan Sunny
to give him the room needed to transport tools and equipment.
A
couple of years later in 1998 DJ acquired the Sullivan/Palatek
line of Industrial and Portable compressors. Again those were
lean times; in fact the first 2 units sold were to St. Vincent.
They were a diesel compressor and an electric compressor. New
employees were added to the staff, Rene Belmontes and Rupert Young
joined. The main types of companies that DJ Compressor sold and
serviced were mainly tire garages, wheel alignment shops and automotive
shops. Eventually they began expanding by selling units to be
used on offshore platforms such as Eagle One and Mora platforms.
Then eventually on to Powergen, NP and WASA to name a few.
In
2002 Jeffery was able to buy out Lenny and Desmond, as each was
ready to pass on the business. Shortly after this Jeffery moved
the office to its present location at #99 Boundary Rd, San Juan.
This move was intentional to bring us closer to the factories
in the east west corridor and central Trinidad. During this time
our foreign sales increased with units being sold and serviced
in Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Guyana. The following year
Derrick O’Kieffe joined DJ Compressor to increase our Service
Department team.
Further
additions to staff were made in 2006, Adelaide Thompson joined
to support the administrative and accounting needs of DJ Compressor.
In July 2006 DJ Compressor, was made part of the Tropical Power
Group of companies. Such a move was welcomed as the combined resources
and experience would be used to enhance our reliable brands, top
notch service and sales into the choice for compressed air in
Trinidad and Tobago.
In
2007 Damian de Gannes joined as General Manger in June. Shortly
followed by Alvin Sookraj who joined our capable and mobile Service
Department. This move will enable all involved to take DJ Compressor
to become the top supplier of compressed air requirement in Trinidad
& Tobago. |
